MacroPoint Tracking
Initiate & view tracking with Descartes MacroPoint.
Overview: Aljex and MacroPoint offer a fully automated integration to track shipments. This integration supports two tracking methods: automation and manual button-click. Automation is the preferred method due to its efficiency and reliability.
Tracking via Automation:
1. Required Fields for Automation:
- Pickup Appointment: Must include a date and time set in the future.
- Delivery Appointment: Requires a date and time that follows the pickup appointment.
- Carrier Assignment: Ensure a carrier is assigned and is in coverage status.
- Tracking Information: Enter a cell phone number, truck number, or trailer number. It's best practice to collect all three.
2. Tracking Process:
- Telematics Connection: MacroPoint first attempts to connect via truck or trailer number using telematics. If this fails, it defaults to the driver’s cell phone number.
- Saving the Shipment: After entering the required information, click 'Save.' This action updates the shipment details and initiates the tracking session with MacroPoint.
3. MacroPoint Visibility Module:
- Pre-filled with details from other modules, including carrier name, Aljex carrier ID, partner status, and tracking method (e.g., telematics or cell phone).
- Options Available:
- Share the session with customers via a link.
- View the session directly in the MacroPoint UI.
- Update or stop the session.
4. Check Calls Module:
- Tracks manual and MacroPoint check calls.
- Displays pings from MacroPoint and any manual check calls in the ‘Caller’ column.
- Displays ETA updates, arrivals, and departures as the driver passes through a geofence or updates within the MacroPoint app.
5. Automation Setup:
- Business Rules: Automation can be set up based on specific criteria such as customers, carriers, modes, equipment types, revenue types, or offices.

Tracking via Button-Click Method:
1. Manual Tracking:
- MacroPoint Visibility Module: Manually update details such as driver cell phone number, track start time, duration, and ping interval.
- Initiating a Session: Click 'Create' to start the tracking session with MacroPoint, which will function similarly to the automated method, providing check calls, ETAs, and arrivals/departures.
2. Adding Modules to Dispatch Page:
- If the MacroPoint Visibility or Check Calls module is not visible on your dispatch page, check your drawer or template library.
